Salu plans to undertake a Handicraft & Artisan Workshop as a livelihood project for persons with disabilities. The focus of the project will be to provide training, resources, and support to individuals with disabilities, enabling them to create and sell handmade products such as jewelry, home décor, and textiles. Salu will collaborate with local artisans and experts to offer training in various craft-making techniques. Participants will also receive essential business skills training, including marketing and budgeting, which will help them sell their creations through local markets, online platforms, and community partnerships.
This initiative will have numerous benefits for those involved. First, it offers economic empowerment by providing participants the chance to earn an income through their creativity. This helps combat stereotypes that individuals with disabilities are unproductive, fostering a sense of financial independence. Additionally, the project promotes social inclusion by creating an accessible, collaborative environment where participants can interact and build a sense of community, which is essential for both mental well-being and social integration.
The workshop also focuses on skills development, offering participants not just crafting techniques but also valuable business acumen like time management, entrepreneurship, and customer relations. These skills can be leveraged for expanding personal businesses or enhancing future professional opportunities. Moreover, the creation of sustainable livelihoods is central to the project’s design, as the products made can be sold in markets, online platforms, or through business partnerships, providing long-term income streams for the participants. The project will also play a crucial role in raising awareness and advocacy, showcasing the talents and potential of persons with disabilities, helping to break down societal barriers and stigma. As participants gain recognition for their work, they will experience a boost in confidence, affirming that they are valued and capable of making meaningful contributions to society. Finally, the project will contribute to local economic development by creating a demand for locally crafted goods, generating further employment opportunities and fostering partnerships within the community.
To ensure the success of this project, Salu will partner with local disability organizations, vocational trainers, and craft experts.
