Introduction:
The Dera district in North Shewa, Salale, has experienced devastating destruction, with 500 houses burned down, leaving over 3,500 individuals displaced. The victims, including children, women, and the elderly, face severe challenges in accessing basic necessities like food, shelter, and medical care. Pregnant women and other vulnerable groups are especially at risk.
Abdissa Integrated Community Development Organization (AICDO) is appealing to national and international partners, donors, and individuals to provide urgent support to address this humanitarian crisis.
Background:
The crisis in Dera district is the result of violent conflicts reportedly involving Fannoon soldiers under the Amhara Region. This tragic event led to the destruction of property, loss of lives, and the displacement of entire communities. Victims are currently without shelter, sufficient food, or access to healthcare. Additionally, a local government employee, Mr. Zalaalam Tasfayee, was imprisoned for reporting the incident, and his father was later killed, highlighting the need for justice and accountability.
Objective:
To provide immediate relief to the affected population and support long-term recovery efforts for the displaced families in Dera district.
Proposed Support and Budget Estimate:
1. Immediate Needs:
Food Assistance: $200,000
Temporary Shelter: $150,000
Medical Supplies and Services: $100,000
Essential Non-Food Items (e.g., clothing, hygiene kits): $50,000
2. Long-Term Recovery:
Rebuilding Homes: $1,500,000
Psychosocial Support and Trauma Counseling: $100,000
Education Support for Displaced Children: $75,000
Livelihood Restoration Programs: $250,000
Total Budget Estimate: $2,425,000
Appeal:
AICDO seeks financial and material support from donors, international organizations, and governments to assist the displaced people of Dera. Contributions can be made through AICDO’s official website or directly to the organization's accounts.
Transparency and Accountability:
AICDO ensures full transparency and accountability in the utilization of funds. Regular updates on the progress and impact of the assistance will be provided to all donors.
